Artist: Jayline
Album name: Fifty Shades of Jay
Genre: drum and bass

Images: The artist copied the design for the book 'fifty shades of grey' but instead he called it 'fifty shades of jay' because his name is Jayline. He did this to make his album stand out.

Typography: The typography the artist has used on his album is easy to read and bold. The artists name 'Jayline' and the title 'Fifty Shades of Jay' and both written in spaced out and easy to read writing. The six songs on the front cover are written with a serif, which makes it stand out and look different to the titles.

Layout: The layout of this album is in the same style as the book fifty shades of grey. There is a grey/silver tie in the background on a blue background. In the bottom left it says the artists name 'Jayline' and in the top right there is the title saying 'Fifty Shades of Jay' and underneath the title there is the list of songs on the album.

Colour: The color of the album is a very dark blue/grey. The tie is in a grey/silver color with a blue tint. The background starts off almost black in the top left corner and becomes more of a blue in the bottom right corner. The text is all in white except the bullet points for the names of the songs.

Artist: Drake
Album name: Take Care
Genre: Rap

Images: Drake is sitting at a table with antiques round him this is because he is trying to get the image of a king. Everything around him looks old fashioned. There is a big lit candle on the table with a golden holder, there is a golden wine glass (wine is expensive and upper class) and there is a little golden bird on the table. There is hand painted pictures in the background in golden frames again to show upper class and wealth. He is also wearing a gold watch with gold chains this is to show that he is rich and to follow the stereotype of rappers. Drakes name isn't on the album front cover, this is because he is so well known he doesn't need to put his name on the front of the album.

Typography: The title is written as if its hand written, almost like a signature. On the back cover of the album there is a list f the songs this is written in spaced out capital letters, this is to make them easy to read and to make them stand out.

Layout: Drake is sitting at a table with antiques round him. The antiques are: a candle, a golden bird, and a golden wine glass. There are old pictures behind him in big gold frames. The name of the album is in the bottom left had corner saying 'takecare'.

Colour: The whole album has a lot of gold on it, this is because gold is a very wealthy colour and drake is trying to show that he has a lot of gold and that he is rich. There is also a lot of back on the album cover, this is because black goes with gold.

Artist: 50 Cent
Album name: Get Rich or Die Trying
Genre: Rap

Images: 50 cent is in the centre of the album cover, There is a glass bullet hole aiming at his chest, and inside the glass bullet hole there is a jesus cross. This is to show that he is wealthy because he can afford jewelry. It also shows that he is religious because it is a cross and it also follows the stereo type of rappers wearing big chains. It also shows that when he was shot nine times god was on his side and he survived. In the top right hand corner his name '50 cent' is in big bold letters, this is to show that he's big and bold.

Typography: The artists name '50 Cent' is written in big bubble writing, this is to make his name stand out and to make himself look big. The title 'Get rich or die tryin' is written in almost opposite writing. Its small and is written as if its hand written. The writing looks posh and elegant. The list of songs on the back cover is written in bold spaced out letters you can read it easily and so it stands out.

Layout: 50 cent is in the middle of the album cover, there is a glass bullet hole aiming at his chest and inside the bullet hole there is a big silver sparkly cross. In the top left there is the album name 'Get rich or die tryin'. In the top right there is the artists name '50 cent' in big bold letters. The back cover has a list of songs on the left hand side and on the right hand side there is 50 cent looking at the camera on a dark quiet street.

Questions to apply to my cover

Questions to apply to my cover

Q1. What two conventions have I used and why?

Q2. What are the effects of my layout, typography, colour choice and language choice.

Q3. What issues of representation have I presented?

A1. My magazine cover had a light pink background with a white fade. This is because the magazine's target audience is teenage girls ages about thirteen and pink is seen as a girly colour. The background is there to make the magazine look attractive, and stand out.

There is also Harminey Granger on the cover of my magazine in uniform. This is because my magazines target audience is also aimed at school teenage girls, and Harminey is attractive so it makes the target audience think they can be like her if they buy the magazine.

A2. My layout has Harminey in the middle, a title at the top, and magazine adverts round her. At the bottom of the magazine cover there is an advert for 1direction in big bold letters saying '1D GO BIG AT THE 02', this is to make the advert stand out and make people want to get it. There is also an advert that goes over Harminey saying 'Hermione Granger Doesn't star in the next Harry Potter' because the advert is about her.

I have used the colours shocking pink, baby blue and black on my magazine cover, this is because the magazine's target audience is teenage school girls aged about thirteen and pink and baby blue are girly colours and they stand out. I have used the black for the writing in small because it is easier to read, I have also used black for the subheading 'Being bullied?' this is because bullying is a very horrible dark thing so black suits it and makes it stand out.

I have used a very bold typography to make my magazine stand out and to make the writing easy to read. The smaller writing underneath the sub titles are in the same font just smaller.

I have used a very easy language choice to read, this is because my magazine is aimed at school girls. A lot of my language includes 'you' and 'your' this is to make the target audience believe the magazine is for them and to attract them more.

A3. You can clearly see my magazine cover is for school girls. This is because there is a school girl on the front of my magazine, and the writing is in pink and baby blue which are generally girls colors. The things that are said on the front of the magazine are girly thing s like 'Is your boyfriend cheating on you?' and 'want your crush to like you?'.

This is a really good start, with some sound analysis.

Really you need to include another convention for question 1.

you could be a little more specific in your answers explaining the effects on the audience.

You must talk about any issues that there are with the representation you have presented. Are all women/men like that? Do all teenage girls relate to those stories?
