Lifestyle conventions 5

LIFESTYLE CONVENTION 5

THE TONE OF THE MAGAZINE IS ASPIRATIONAL. The magazine assumes the position of lifestyle coach – it tells you what you need and then offers you advice on how to get it.

For each of the following lifestyle magazines, explain how the tone of the magazine is aspirational. Who is the target audience of each magazine? What values does each magazine expect their readers to have? Give examples to back up your answers.

This magazine's target audience is a young woman probably aged from 18-25. There are a lot of stories on  the 2010-2013 celebrities. There are shopping ads for cloths promising the best bikinis, hot dresses and cool tops. It says 'hair secrets that really do work' this is something that every girl wants. This is why they say this, to attract the magazines target audience. This magazine expects to have young pretty girls who like gossip and shopping as their target audience. There is a pretty model on the front to gain attract the target audience into thinking that buying this magazine is going to make you look like that. A lot of the quotes talk to you informally (like you friend) for example 'hair secrets that really DO work'.

This magazine's target audience is probably for women a bit older, probably ages from 28-50. There are a lot of stories on what the women might need and how they can get it for example; '14 sexy ways to beat bad hair', 'too fat? too skinny? cosmo bins your body demons and 'signs he's good in bed'. These are all things girls want to know this is why they put them there to attract their target audience. There is again another pretty model on the cover looking directly at the camera to attract the target audience into thinking, if you buy this magazine you can look like me.

This magazine's target audience is aimed at men aged 18-30 that workout in the gym.
