Typography

Serif: a slight projection finishing off a stroke of a letter in certain typefaces.

Sans Serif: A letter or typeface with no serifs

Find a suitable font for each of the following words from dafont.com and change the font of the words below. Explain your choice of font for each word.

Modern:
this font is modern because its bold and stands out. It has a metallic color to it which makes it modern as we use metal for most things now days.


Kids:

This font is for kids because it stands out. The letters are spaced out and in capitals making it easier for children to read. The color yellow also makes the font stand out and interesting to children. Behind 'squarepants' there is a highlight in blue to also help it stand out.

Sport:

This font is for sport because it looks good and looks streamline. The writing is in red to make it stand out. There is a line going through the top of all the letters to make it look cool and stand out. This type of font isn't that clear to read but it doesn't need to be read.


Masculine:


This type of font is masculine because its strong and manly. The font stands out and is clear to read. The font is very square shaped and big. The font is in black to make it dull and big. This sort of font might be used at the front of a magazine for men that go gym.



Feminine:


This type of font is feminine because its very pretty and colorful. All the letters are thin and nicely shaped. They have little flowers growing out of some of them and little curls. All of the letters are different colors to make the font look pretty and stand out. 




Sophisticated:


This type of font is sophisticated because it is easily read and stands out. Sophisticated means having, revealing, or involving a great deal of worldly experience and knowledge of fashion and culture. The font is spaced out, bold and all in capitals making it easy to read. the color of the font is in black to make it formal.



Bold:
This type of font is bold because it is thick, spaced out and easily read. The writing is in big black bold letters to make it stand out. You would use this type of writing on a poster.




History:

This type of writing is historic because of the style its in. the font has lots of serifs and looks hard to read. You could use this writing in something you are trying to make look historic.

This magazine is symmetrical because it is roughly the same on each side.


This magazine is asymmetrical by eye direction because the model is looking up in the air making all focus on that area.

This magazine is asymmetrical by value because there is less red than black to balance the two colors.
This magazine is also asymmetrical by position because the man balances out the vegetables on the other side.

LIFESTYLE CONVENTION 5

THE TONE OF THE MAGAZINE IS ASPIRATIONAL. The magazine assumes the position of lifestyle coach – it tells you what you need and then offers you advice on how to get it.

For each of the following lifestyle magazines, explain how the tone of the magazine is aspirational. Who is the target audience of each magazine? What values does each magazine expect their readers to have? Give examples to back up your answers.
                                                                                                           

This magazine's target audience is a young woman probably aged from 18-25. There are a lot of stories on  the 2010-2013 celebrities. There are shopping ads for cloths promising the best bikinis, hot dresses and cool tops. It says 'hair secrets that really do work' this is something that every girl wants. This is why they say this, to attract the magazines target audience. This magazine expects to have young pretty girls who like gossip and shopping as their target audience. There is a pretty model on the front to gain attract the target audience into thinking that buying this magazine is going to make you look like that. A lot of the quotes talk to you informally (like you friend) for example 'hair secrets that really DO work'.



This magazine's target audience is probably for women a bit older, probably ages from 28-50. There are a lot of stories on what the women might need and how they can get it for example; '14 sexy ways to beat bad hair', 'too fat? too skinny? cosmo bins your body demons and 'signs he's good in bed'. These are all things girls want to know this is why they put them there to attract their target audience. There is again another pretty model on the cover looking directly at the camera to attract the target audience into thinking, if you buy this magazine you can look like me.

                                                                                                           

This magazine's target audience is aimed at young gay men, probably aged from 18-25. There are stories on fashion, relationship advise, celebrities and holidays. For example on the front cover it says 'MDNA review', 'Reggie Yates', 'Obsessed with a guy?', 'Marcus Collins Gets Fresh' and 'the style issue'. All these thing are supposed to attract the magazines target audience which is gay young men. All the things in this magazine would benefit someone gay.







This magazine's target audience is aimed at men aged 18-30 that workout in the gym. We know this because there are a lot of things to do with loosing weight, putting on muscle and dieting, for example: 'drop 5KG's now!', '30 second fat burners', 83 best foods for men and 'fitter! Leaner! Richer!' This magazine is basically saying if your ripped you can get half naked women hugging you from behind.

This magazine's target audience is aimed at men aged between 20-30. We know this because in the magazine there are things like 'sex tonight instant action','lean muscle fast! See results in 9 days' and HI-DEF abs. The magazine is based around the gym and getting in shape. There is a model on the front looking directly at you attracting its target audience. 



This magazine's target audience is aimed at women aged 30-40. This is because there are a lot of things on health and loosing weight for example: 'Loose 1 1|2 stone in 10 weeks!', 'It's your best-ever guide for a healthier you!' and '60 anti-ageing tricks that really work'. The magazine is based around looking good and being healthy. There is a model on the front looking directly at you to attract its target audience.



This magazines target audience is women aged 30+. This is because there are lots of things about health and living happy. For example there is: 'fresh-off-the-beach skin', 'sexy, healthy, summer hair', 'his+hers SEX success' and '12+ maximize your Zzzzzzzz'. There is a model at the front looking directly at you to attract the magazines target audience. 

This magazines target audience is women ages between 18-30 years old. Thus is because there are lots of things about fashion, how to look good and celebrities. There is '16 body secrets that work', '508 hot looks', 'Adele on sex and dating celebrities' and 'get what you really want in bed'. There is also a model at the front looking directly at the target audience to attract them.

This magazines target audience is for men aged 30+. This is because the magazine is based around sports, health and holidays. For example there is: 'The perfect weekend', 'the case against Lance Armstrong', 'the most badass sports ever', '25 best beers on earth' and 'worlds greatest food city'. There is also an older model on the front cover looking at the target audience to attract them. The model is older because the target audience is for older men.
